"Ain't No Mountain High Enough..."

I have a new goal in life - I want to climb the mountain in the picture above.  For those of you who may be mountain enthusiasts, that happens to be Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, Africa.

I know that this is probably a pipe dream, that I will probably never have the opportunity or the financial resources necessary to do it, but ever since I started reading the book John Bowling wrote when he climbed Kilimanjaro I have been obsessed with the idea.

For those of you who are thinking that I could never do it anyway, since I am not a big rock climber and I have no training for it, allow me to say that I have read several articles about the mountain, and Kili (yeah, that's one of the ways us "people in the know" abbreviate Kilimanjaro) is accessible to someone with reasonable hiking skills.  Though it is difficult, a novice climber can reach Uhuru Peak - 19,340 feet into the sky.

Such is my dream, and I pray that someday God will permit me the chance.

Awesome dream, Joe! 'Kili' is one of my favorite mountains! I did a report on it when I was a kid. And then my mom found some African fabric that had it in the background and forced me to make a pillow case out of it (that is still on my bed as of this morning!) Whenever I see a picture of that mountain, I get an urge to go to Africa. If you end up planning a trip to climb it, can I go with you? :-) Thanks for some inspiration on a Friday afternoon. I needed it!

Uhuru- Swahili for "freedom". For those of us in the know.

Thanks, Joe! I'll look into it. You always have great book recommendations.

Have you read The Shack yet? (by William P. Young) If so, what did you think of it?

I enjoyed the story about Multnomah Falls. I was just there this weekend! I needed to see some Oregon greenery. The desert scene in WA was starting to get to me. :-) Anyway, I hope all is well with you and your fam.

Peace of Christ be with you!

You have fun with that Joe! I got up to 15,000 feet in Bolivia and got altitude sickness so I vow to never go any higher than that ever again! But I'll gladly look at all the cool pictures you get to take when you make it to the top!

PS how's life in OK?
